I have a small house (around ~$100k value) that I’ll be selling shortly. My neighbor has asked me on numerous occasions to let him know if I will be selling because he wants to buy it for his daughter, etc. (Unrelated, but said neighbor has also helped out a lot by doing things like mowing the yard when I am out of town, etc, and I do really like him, although I am really not trying to use this to affect this decision as its just a financial matter.)
I’ve never sold a house before, and I’m guessing a big part of what a realtor does is help figure out the expected value that the house will sell for in the current market. What are my options here, and is there general concensus of what to avoid doing?
- Skip realtor, lookup comps myself and offer neighbor house at the price I think it woudl sell for? Hire RE attorney/lender to do the sale? In theory the “savings” here by not using a listing agent could be shared between myself and neighbor)
- Go through realtor but discuss neighbors desire to purchase house?
- Ignore neighbor, just sell house
